Today is Mite Sunday. Please don’t forget to put your Mite Box for Missions in the basket on the back counter in the Sanctuary. There are extra empty boxes for you to take for next month. Parents, your children are invited to pick up their own Mite box and collect spare change for missions. “Mission In Motion” Please help support one of our own members, Margie Longan, as she participates in LWML’s “Pledge, Walk & Exercise” at the LWML’s 34th Biennial Convention in Peoria, Illinois! Margie will be one of many participating in “Moving for Missions.” You can help her by pledging on the upstairs bulletin board! All pledges need to be collected by Sunday, June 5. Please make checks payable to Messiah Lutheran Church and memo it to LWML. Pledges can be sent to the office, given to Margie, or dropped off in the Sunday offerings clearly marked.

Pastor Lassman’s Adult Information Class will meet this Thursday at 7 p.m. Topic for study will be “The Lord’s Supper” (three different views among Christians). Those having completed the class are always welcome as drop-ins.

Only 64 more days until Vacation Bible School’s opening day! VBS this year is the week of June 27 to July 1. Planning needs to get started!! Teachers need to learn their materials; there are songs to be learned; crafts items need to be purchased; snacks need to be donated; decorations developed and created, and volunteers are needed EVERYWHERE. Please stop by and prayerfully consider how you can help. Where can you help?! Commit today and sign up on the registration table in the Narthex. Questions? Spring cleanup day will be Saturday morning, May 14 from 9 a.m. to noon. We will be working both indoors and outdoors. Indoors, we will be cleaning and fixing areas, such as the Sanctuary floor, that don’t get covered on a weekly basis. Outdoors we will be weeding, pruning and doing general cleanup around the church. Bring pruners, rakes, brooms, gloves, etc. Refreshments and a lunch will be provided.Please sign up on the upstairs bulletin board.
For April, we are collecting shaving cream, razors and after-shave. Items can be placed in the lounge basket upstairs. Your donations will help individuals at the Compass Cascade Women’s Shelter and Immanuel Community Services.
Handbell Concert - The Emerald City Ringers will present a Spring Concert on Saturday, May 7 at 7:00 p.m. at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Bellevue. The concert features a full handbell choir, soloist, and small ensembles. All are welcome! For more information, please read their flyer located on the upstairs bulletin board.
Coming August 22-26, 2011! This year’s Continuing Education Class “No More ‘Peek-a-Boo’ Jesus:” Christology of the Old Testament.” Understanding the Old Testament and its Christological character and foundation means we must first understand the Hebrew people and their covenantal relationship with God. Therefore, the task is not to “find” Jesus in the Old Testament, but rather to recognize that Christ is the Old Testament. Class will be taught by Professor Jeffrey Pulse from the Seminary at Fort Wayne. Cost for the class will be $150.00.
