For April, we will be collecting shaving cream, razors and after-shave. Items can be placed in the lounge basket upstairs. Your donations will help individuals at the Compass Cascade Women’s Shelter and Immanuel Community Services.
Pastor Lassman’s Adult Information Class meets this Thursday, 7 p.m. Topic for study is “Holy Baptism” (including a discussion on infant baptism). Those having completed the class are always welcome as drop-ins.
Today’s Sunday School lesson is the raising of Jesus’ good friend, Lazarus. In resurrecting Lazarus (John 11:1-45), Jesus demonstrated that He can indeed raise all who believe in Him for salvation. True life is eternal life with Jesus. Talk with your children about how in this life we see and experience the effects of sin - sickness, injury, and death. Assure them that Jesus, our Savior from sin and death, has guaranteed that in heaven our lives will be free of sin and its effects eternally. As a family, confess the second article of the Apostles’ Creed together.
WA/AK Unit Good Shepherd Auxiliary - Please join us for a morning of fellowship, entertainment and lunch on Saturday, April 30, to be held here at Messiah. For more information, please see the flyer located on the upstairs and downstairs bulletin boards.
Junior high, senior high, and college age youth are encouraged to sign up to support the upcoming Easter Morning Breakfast. We will be meeting in the Fellowship Hall on Saturday, April 23, at 2:30 PM to help with food preparation, setting up tables, and decorating the Fellowship Hall. Once we finish our work, all volunteers are invited out for a free pizza dinner as our way of thanking you for your hard work. But hang tight! Volunteers will be asked to continue their much needed support on Sunday morning. After communion in the early service we will meet in the youth room for Top Pot doughnuts and beverages; and then we will head down to the Fellowship Hall where we will help with serving food, cleaning up dishes and cleaning up the Fellowship Hall. The sign-up sheet for volunteers is located on the bulletin board outside the youth room.
Did you notice the Vacation Bible School bulletin board in the Narthex? It’s that time again! VBS this year is the week of June 27 to July 1. We need many volunteers to help make this year’s VBS a success. Please stop by and prayerfully consider how you can help. There are many positions available. Where do you fit in? Questions? Please call Pastor or the church office at 524.0024.
We are still collecting items to help those people in Japan who have suffered such a tremendous loss. In May, Lutheran World Relief will be collecting all the Personal Care Kits we can donate. We are collecting dark bath towels, bars of soap, adult toothbrushes, combs and metal nail clippers. Please leave donations in the Narthex near the large table.
Concordia Kids Say “Thank you!” The youth of Concordia want to show their thanks to Pastor Lassman and Messiah. Check out their cards on the Concordia Bulletin Board.
Coming August 22-26, 2011! This year’s Continuing Education Class “No More ‘Peek-a-Boo’ Jesus:” Christology of the Old Testament. Understanding the Old Testament and its Christological character and foundation means we must first understand the Hebrew people and their covenantal relationship with God. Therefore, the task is not to “find” Jesus in the Old Testament, but rather to recognize that Christ is the Old Testament. Class will be taught by Professor Jeffrey Pulse from the Seminary at Fort Wayne. Cost for the class will be $150.00. If you are interested, there is a sign up sheet with more information and cost on the upstairs bulletin board. Contact Pastor Lassman (206.524.0024) on the best way to register.
Baked Goods Needed for the Concordia Auction in addition to the live and silent auctions, there will also be a dessert auction. So dust off your oven-mitts and break out your baking pans! Please let Heather-Marie Wilson know what dessert you are donating as soon as possible (hmwilson@myuw.net or 206.632.4329). Baked goods should be delivered the day of the auction (Saturday, April 16).
Spring cleanup day will be Saturday morning, May 14 from 9 a.m. to noon. We will be working both indoors and outdoors. Indoors, we will be cleaning and fixing areas, such as the Sanctuary floor, that don’t get covered on a weekly basis. Outdoors we will be weeding, pruning and doing general cleanup around the church. Bring pruners, rakes, brooms, gloves, etc. Refreshments and a lunch will be provided.
Please sign up on the upstairs bulletin board.
The March Newsletter from Pastor Ted Krey in the Dominican Republic is posted on the upstairs bulletin board. Please take a minute to read through it!
We will be sending approx 30 pillowcase dresses to Wisconsin for hand delivery to Pastor Ted Krey in the Dominican Republic. If you are currently working on dresses, please have them ready to give to Bev Edmon or Kathy Lassman by Palm Sunday. We will continue to work on dresses throughout the year and send them to the Krey's via visitors from the U.S. (this saves the Krey's from paying duty). Many thanks to the ladies who are donating materials, prepping the dresses, and sewing. See the display in the Narthex.
Messenger deadline is next Sunday!
