Mite Box Sunday is today. You can put your mite boxes in the basket at the back of the sanctuary and pick up another one for next month. Thank you for supporting LWML mission activities.
Pastor Lassman’s Adult Information Class meets this Thursday, 7 p.m. Topic for study is “The Holy Spirit” (His person and work.) Those having completed the class are always welcome as drop-ins.
CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR THE CONFESSIONAL LUTHERAN...Issues, Etc. is a radio talk show hosted by LCMS Pastor Todd Wilken and produced by Lutheran Public Radio. Topics include: Counseling vs. Confession, Parenting, Joseph the Patriarch, The Symbols of the Lutheran Church and more. You can listen to what you want when you want at www.issuesetc.org.
Today in Sunday School, the lesson is the account of Jesus and the Samaritan Woman (John 4:1-42). In this lesson we learned that Jesus gives the Spirit, who cleanses us from sin and unrighteousness in the living water of Holy Baptism. Talk with your children about how sin causes us to have guilt and shame before God. Emphasize that through the Water and Word of Holy Baptism all guilt and shame are removed. Talk about Jesus coming for all people, no matter what race or color they are. Point out that ordinary water leaves us thirsting for more, but the living water of Jesus, which flows from His Word and the font of Baptism, quenches our spiritual thirst forever.
WA/AK Unit Good Shepherd Auxiliary - Please join us for a morning of fellowship, entertainment and lunch on Saturday, April 30, to be held here at Messiah. For more information, please see the flyer located on the upstairs and downstairs bulletin boards.
Time is running out! Please remember to turn in your donation procurement forms for the Concordia Auction by Friday, April 1. Procurement forms can be obtained on the display board in the church or by contacting the school.
Save the Date! Round Up at the Concordia Corral, Concordia's annual auction, is Saturday, April 16. Reserve your tickets or even a whole table! Ticket reservation forms can be found on the display board. (Kids, tell your parents to get their tickets- we have a Kinect for XBOX!) Childcare will be available for children age 2 and up. Please indicate your interest in having childcare, by filling out the request form.
Many husbands and wives seem to be “married” to their careers, TV, sports or their children. Re-examine your married lifestyle and your priorities and rediscover the newly-weds you once were by attending a Lutheran Marriage Encounter Weekend. You can contact us either by phone, 1.800.235.1010 or visit our website Visit our website at www.GodLovesMarriage.org.
Junior High, Senior High, and college age youth are encouraged to sign up to support the upcoming Easter Morning Sunrise breakfast. We will be meeting in the Fellowship Hall on Saturday, April 23rd, at 2:30 PM to help with food preparation, setting up tables, and decorating the Fellowship Hall. Once we finish our work, all volunteers are invited out for a free pizza dinner as our way of thanking you for your hard work. But hang tight! Volunteers will be asked to continue their much needed support on Sunday morning. After communion in the early service we will meet in the youth room for Top Pot doughnuts and beverages; and then we will head down to the Fellowship Hall where we will help with serving food, cleaning up dishes and cleaning up the Fellowship Hall. The sign-up sheet for volunteers is located on the bulletin board outside the youth room.
Did you notice the Vacation Bible School bulletin board in the Narthex? It’s that time again! VBS this year is the week of June 27 to July 1. We need many volunteers to help make this year’s VBS a success. Please stop by and prayerfully consider how you can help. There are many positions available. Where do you fit in? Questions? Please call Pastor or the church office at 524.0024.
Messiah Lutheran Church has had a relationship with The Hearth Stone Retirement Community at Green Lake ever since it began the 1960's including providing members for the Board of Trustees. At this time Messiah has one member, Jane Krueger, on the Board. The Board is looking for more Lutheran participation. If you would like to be considered please contact Pastor Lassman in the office. Qualifications would include a concern for adequate housing for retired/seniors, ability to work harmoniously with others in the smooth operation of the facility, and the ability to plan and vision for the future.
Coming August 22-26, 2011! This year’s Continuing Education Class “No More ‘Peek-a-Boo’ Jesus:” Christology of the Old Testament. Understanding the Old Testament and its Christological character and foundation means we must first understand the Hebrew people and their covenantal relationship with God. Therefore, the task is not to “find” Jesus in the Old Testament, but rather to recognize that Christ is the Old Testament. Class will be taught by Professor Jeffrey Pulse from the Seminary at Fort Wayne. If you are interested, there is a sign up sheet with more information and cost on the upstairs bulletin board. Contact Pastor Lassman (206.524.0024) on the best way to register.
