In Our Prayers: Family of Helen Grout. Helen died last Sunday, January 9th . Service will be held on February 9th at the Hearthstone officiated by the Lutheran chaplain at the Columbia Home. Time to be announced.
Congregational Meeting, January 23rd at 6 pm. The church council will recommend nominations of two former Vicars, Matt Zickler and Trevor Mankin for pastoral office. They will be recommended by the Council for nomination because they best fit the qualifications. Any communicant member of the Congregation may offer additional nominations. A call meeting will be held on February 13thwhere the congregation will vote on its nominees. As usual, we ask that members bring a dessert and we will bring the coffee. Ladies’ Night Out - Ready for something light and luscious after the holiday indulgence? Ladies’ Night Out is going to Bai Pai Thai located at 2316 NE 65th St. in Seattle on Monday, January 17th at 6pm. RSVP to Bev Edmon.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, January 22 at 4:00 P.M. at Lamb of God Lutheran Church in memory of Judy Peterson. There will be a potluck dinner afterwards and you are invited to bring a dish to share. Flowers or Memorial Gifts may be sent to Lamb of God Lutheran Church, 12509 27th Ave. NE, Seattle, WA 98125.
In January, we will be collecting bath towels for Compass Cascade Women’s Shelter and Immanuel Community services. Please put these items in the lounge basket.
Concordia is collecting “Labels for Education.” Pick up an extensive list of participating companies on the coffee bar. This is an easy way to support our school. Labels may be dropped off on the Concordia bulletin board. Thank You!

Pastor Lassman begins a new Adult Information Class on February 10th. Once again we are asking Messiah members to provide desserts for these classes. Please sign up on the bulletin board if you can help.

Lutheran Marriage Encounter - Two upcoming weekends, February 11-13, 2011 and April 1-3, 2011, both in Tukwila. For more information please read the flyer posted on the upstairs bulletin board.
Today in Sunday School the students learned more about John the Baptist from Matthew 3:1-12. As John pointed to Jesus as the Lamb of God, so our pastors point us to this same Jesus, who grants us forgiveness, life, and salvation. Ask your children what they learned about John, what he ate, and how he dressed.
Senior and Junior High Youth are invited for a fun time of bowling and fellowship at Spin Alley, Sunday February 20th. We have booked a lane from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. We will be leaving from the church at 2:30 PM. Shoe rentals and games are included. Bring along some money for food served at the bowling alley. Sign up for the event is on the bulletin board outside the youth room.
The seed of literary discussion is sown! Yi-Lin Lee of our congregation is leading a book study from Pastor Lassman’s book suggestions. The list of titles are found at www.messiahseattle.org and are accessed in a link to the right in the home page. Please contact Yi-Lin for the title recommendation and to help coordinate a place and time of discussion.
DEFENDING THE FAITH, TEACHING THE TRUTH...Issues, Etc. is a radio talk show produced by Lutheran Public Radio and hosted by LCMS Pastor Todd Wilken. Topics include: American Revivalism, The Confession of Peter, Muscular Christianity, Roe v. Wade and more. You can listen to what you want when you want at www.issuesetc.org. On the weekend of March 26-27th, Messiah will have the joy of having the Wind Ensemble from Concordia University in Portland, Oregon. Concordia is one of the ten universities/colleges of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. On Saturday, March 26th we will host 35-40 students in Messiah’s Fellowship Hall for an early supper and then enjoy a concert in the early evening. On Sunday, March 27th, the Wind Ensemble will participate in our worship by accompanying hymns and the liturgy. We will be asking members to house these students Saturday night and prepare a sack lunch for their departure Sunday after the Divine Service. Chapel on the Ave, formerly known as Agape House Ministries, would like to invite you to celebrate 40 + years of campus ministry at the University of Washington. A service of Celebration and Remembrance will take place on January 29th, 2011, 2pm- 5:30pm at Chapel on the Ave. Please join us as we praise God for His many blessings over the past 40 years. A dinner and refreshments will be served following the service. To help in planning this event, RSVPs are encouraged by January 24th.
