Announcements
In Our Prayers, Family of Kermit Kuebler who died December 18th. Rev. Dave Peterson from Lamb of God & Family for the death of his wife, Judy.
Congregational Meeting, January 23rd at 6 pm. The church council is putting together a recommended list of Assistant Pastor nominees for the congregation to review. According to Messiah’s By-Laws, any communicant member may offer a nomination at this meeting. The nomination must be adopted by a majority of voters present at the meeting for the name to be recognized as an official. All official nominees will then be voted on at a congregational meeting on February 13th.
The church Council appreciates the input we have received thus far. We look forward to a large attendance at the congregational meeting on January 23rd as we make decisions that will affect the future of Messiah’s pastoral ministry. As usual, we ask that members bring a desert and we will bring the coffee. May the Lord bless our meeting and our congregation. - Neil Strege, President
Ladies Night Out - Ready for something light and luscious after the holiday indulgence? Ladies Night Out is going to Bai Pai Thai on Monday, January 17th at 6pm. RSVP to Bev Edmon.
Men’s Night Out - Monday, January 3rd at 6pm at “Sonrisa,” 2614 NE 46th St. (University Village). RSVP to Brian Danforth.

In January, we will be collecting bath towels for Compass Cascade Women’s Shelter and Immanuel Community services. Please put these items in the lounge basket.
New Pictorial Directory - Did you miss out having your picture taken for the new Pictorial Directory? There will be another day to have your picture taken after January 1st, 2011. Watch future bulletins for the date.
The new Portals of Prayer is available on the upstairs Narthex table & downstairs hallway table.
Help Wanted: Needed 2-4 people to assist with undecorating the sanctuary on Saturday, Jan. 8th at 10 am. Please contact Kathy Lassman if you can help. Thanks!
Sunday School Teachers Meeting - January 9th right after the late service. We have invited the Mekane teachers to participate. Vicar Fremer will lead the meeting and will cover the next three lessons. Sharon Weiss will lead us through the teachers tools package, so everyone remember to bring them!
Concordia is collecting “Labels for Education.” Pick up an extensive list of participating companies on the coffee bar. This is an easy way to support our school. Labels may be dropped off on the Concordia bulletin board. Thank You!
The cost of the poinsettia’s this year is $8.00. If you signed up to purchase a plant, please pay the church office, the flowers can be picked up downstairs in the Fellowship Hall.
There has been some confusion with the new office phones. When dialing the church if no one is in the main church office (Kathee or Hillary), you will hear a message on where to direct your call. If you want to leave a message for Pastor Lassman, dial 103. If you want to leave a message for the Vicar, his extension is 104. To leave a message for the office, press 0. At any time during the recording you can also enter the phone extension of the person you are trying to reach.

2011 offering envelopes are here and can be picked up on the large table located in the Narthex. Please throw away any 2010 envelopes you may have left over. If you have any questions, please call Kathee McAlpine in the church office at 206.524.0024.
Today in Sunday School, our children learned about the visit of the Wise Men, as told in Matthew 2. This Bible story teaches us that the Savior came into the world for the salvation of all people. Just as the Wise Men came to Bethlehem to see the Savior and honor Him, so we come to church to see the Savior in His Word and Sacraments. With these gifts, He both honors and blesses us. Discuss how in our sin we are like Herod and do not want to worship Jesus. Talk about the details of the story and see how they compare with “tradition.”
