Announcements
In our prayers: The brother of Joanne Warner, Jim Svec, who died last week.
Our congregation has approved a motion to call an Assistant Pastor. The call process now begins and the church Council wants to hear your comments. You can submit written comments on whether to call an experienced Pastor from another congregation or a seminary graduate. You can comment on the ideal attributes of an Assistant Pastor or you can summit a specific name. Written comments would be appreciated in the President’s box in the choir room. Comments are due by January 2, 2011. Please keep the call process in your prayers.
Attention all Elders!!! There will be an Elders meeting this Tuesday at 7 pm instead of at the end of the month.
Please join us next Wednesday night for the second midweek Advent Service at 7 pm preceded by a light dinner sponsored by Concordia Lutheran School at 6 pm. The Advent service this week is “The Spirit of Advent Present”.
Desserts after worship - Advent is here and the Jr. High, Sr. High, and young adults are invited to get together for dessert and fellowship after Wednesday night services throughout Advent. We will gather in the Narthex and then head out for a dessert location nearby.
Men’s Night Out - Please join us Monday, December 6th at 6 pm at Romano’s Macaroni Grill. (401 NE Northgate Way) RSVP to Brian Danforth.
Ladies Guild Luncheon: The Ladies Guild will be having their December luncheon at the Wedgewood Broiler at noon on Wednesday. If you would like to attend, please RSVP to Margie Longan.
Pastor’s AIC class will meet this week at 7 pm for the study on “Holy Baptism.” (including a discussion on infant baptism). Those who have already completed the class are always welcome as drop-ins.
Messiah now has a new nursery care worker; her name is Dorie Nussbaum. It has been a while since we have had a consistent presence in the nursery. We apologize for the inconvenience. For parents with children under six, please come down and meet and introduce yourself to Dorie. She is looking forward to watching your children during the services if needed and during Pastor Lassman’s 9:20 am Bible study.
In December, we are collecting shaving cream, razors and aftershave for Immanuel Community services. Please put these items in the lounge basket. Thank you to everyone who contributed in November. We collected 19 toothbrushes, 22 toothbrushes, and 10 large bottles of lotion for the Compass Cascade Women’s Shelter and Immanuel Lutheran Community Services.
New Pictorial Directory - Have you signed up to have your picture taken? Pictures will begin tomorrow, December 6th, from 2 - 8:30 pm. Tuesday, December 7th from 2 - 8:30 pm and then again on Sunday, December 12th from 3 - 8:30 pm. There are still plenty of spots open! Sign up in the Narthex after service TODAY! We hope to get everyone’s picture taken.
Cans for Christmas - A food drive sponsored by Messiah Youth has begun and will run through December 19th. All canned food donations are in support of the Lake City Food Bank. There is a big red collection bin located in the Narthex by the coat rack.
Christmas Party - Coming December 12th, at 7pm there will be a Christmas party for the Jr. High and Sr. High youth. There will be games, a “White Elephant” gift exchange, and cookie baking. The baked cookies will be given to the Adult Information Class. Youth are also encouraged to bring canned foods, dried pastas, and multi grain cereals to donate to the Lake City Food Bank. Sign up on the Youth board.
Sunday School students are reminded to be at the Children’s Christmas Service Rehearsal, Saturday, December 11th at 9:30am. Everyone is invited to celebrate with our Sunday School as they present their Christmas Service, Sunday, December 12th at 9:20 am.
Christmas Gift Project - There are 25 gift tags hanging on the small tree out in the Narthex. If you would like to help, take a name and purchase a gift requested on the tag (usually a $25 limit). Please do not forget to sign your name up for each tag you take. The gifts should not be wrapped but please return the gift tag attached securely. The deadline for returning the gifts is December 12th. If you have any questions, please contact Sue Hewitson.
DOOR OFFERING FOR PASTOR BERHANU- Today, December 5th there will be a door offering for Pastor Berhanu and his family. Please keep them and their ministry in your prayers and give as you are able. Ushers will be at the back of the church after both services to collect this special offering.
Concordia is collecting “Labels for Education.” Pick up an extensive list of participating companies on the coffee bar. This is an easy way to support our school. Labels may be dropped off on the Concordia bulletin board. Thank You!
Today in Sunday School the children heard about Mary’s visit to Elizabeth (Luke 1:26-56). In the presence of the Son of God growing within Mary’s womb, John the Baptist leapt inside Elizabeth’s womb. God fills us with Himself in Word and Sacrament and we, like Mary, offer our praise and worship. Mary’s song, “The Magnificant” is sung by Christians as part of the Matins Liturgy. Talk to your children about this wonderful Bible story and how God fills us with His presence through Word and Sacrament. Review the Second Article of the Apostles’ Creed, (“born of the Virgin Mary”).
Are Gift Cards on your Christmas shopping list this year? Did you know that by buying them through Concordia Lutheran School that a percentage of your purchase goes directly to the school? What a great way to "double up your giving!" Scrip representatives will be at a table outside the Fellowship hall every Sunday morning until Christmas. Stop by!
