VBS is coming up and we are in need of egg cartons for one of the craft projects. If you are able to help out, you can give them to Kim Strege, or leave them in the Preschool Sunday school classroom if she is not available. Thanks for your help!
With VBS just around the corner, we would like to ask the congregation if you could donate any of the snack items listed below. Please leave them on the table in the Narthex. We are in need of: Graham Crackers, oval crackers, Fish crackers, Chocolate syrup, Chocolate chips, Pretzels (both regular & stick type), Pretzel braids, Honey Cheerios, M&M’s, apples and baby carrots. We would also welcome donations for drink items such as bottled water, juice, fruit punch and lemonade. If you could donate one item or several items, that would be great! Thank you very much. Have you heard? Messiah is hosting it’s 1st Annual “Congregational & Community Appreciation Day” on July 3rd ! We would like to thank both the members of Messiah and our surrounding community for all their wonderful support over the years. The event will be held on the front lawn of the church from 11am to 3pm. There will be hotdogs, popcorn, chips, and cold drinks! Along with food, there will be a face painter and balloon artist for the kids. Volunteers are desperately needed for 2 hour shifts. If you like to help, please sign up on the upstairs bulletin board. EDUCATING A NEW GENERATION OF LUTHERANS...Issues Etc. Is a radio talk show produced by Lutheran Public Radio and hosted by LCMS Pastor Todd Wilken. Topics include: A Review of “Toy Story 3,” The Miracles of Jesus, Is Global Warming a Religion?, Pro-Life Women in Politics, The Hymn “Lord, Thee I Love with All My Heart” and more. Ladies Night Out - The Scarlett Tree restaurant has been reborn at 801 NE 65th near Greenlake. They have Happy Hour specials until 7pm plus their regular menu. Join us on this Tuesday, June 22nd at 6pm. As usual, RSVP to Bev Edmon. An RSVP let’s me get a general idea of how large a table we will need, but come by even if you haven’t had a chance to RSVP. We can always pull up a chair or two.

Once again Messiah will be hosting a Seminary Continuing Education Class this summer, August 16-20, 2010. This class is open to all lay persons at a cost of $125. (This year the class is 4.5 days instead of the 3 days of last year’s class) The title of this course is “History and Theology of the LCMS” taught by Dr. Lawrence Rast, JR., Ph.D. This course is an extended consideration of the history of the LCMS with a focus on the last 40 years. When you are finished with your Portal of Prayer, would you like to pass it on? Kathy Lassman is collecting previous Portals of Prayer, Devotional Books and Bibles for the Christian Counseling Center. You may leave them upstairs on the table across from the Coffee Bar.
Lutheran Ministry Services is having their “Stuff Sale” at Concordia this year on July 31st. Donations are being collected in the container behind the school on the following Saturdays: June 26th, July 10th & 24th between the hours of 9am and 12pm. They are in need of volunteers who would be willing to be the “attendants” at the container when people drop off items. Please contact Cheryl Kohring at 206.364.5324.
Today in Sunday School students studied “God Controls the Sun and the Moon” (Joshua 10:1-15). Help students understand that God extended the daylight so Joshua and the children of Israel could gain complete victory over their enemy. Parents could ask, “Why was it important for the people to gain complete victory? How does God give us the victory over our enemies: sin, death, and the devil?”
Judy Thompson, who has been housebound since early May, would appreciate hearing from people. Foot surgery is scheduled for June 25th.
The summer Portal of Prayers are available to pick up on the tables located in the Narthex and the downstairs entryway.
